PI, Dr K.C. Daraojimba: “Expanding the chronological framework of Igbo-Ukwu, eastern Nigeria”. This fund is targeted at producing six radiocarbon dates to refine cultural timelines at Igbo-Ukwu.
PI, Dr K.C. Daraojimba: “Mapping, Analysing, and Digitizing Igbo Heritage: A Multi-Phase Archaeological Study in Southeast Nigeria.” This project is designed to document archaeological sites in Igbo-Ukwu and consolidate findings from the excavations through a comprehensive typological classification of the ceramics, supported by digitisation, 3D modelling and public dissemination.
Joint (Cambridge-based) PI, Dr K.C. Daraojimba with Dr K.C. Daniel (PI-Nigeria): “Exploring uncharted territories in Igboland, southeast Nigeria: Archaeological and environmental perspectives”. This fund is targeted at addressing questions on the territorial extent of Igbo-Ukwu material traditions that has been thought to be stratigraphically and geographically isolated.
Joint (Nigeria-based) PI, Dr K.C. Daraojimba with Dr B. Babalola (PI-Cambridge): “Paleo-environmental studies, subsistence economy and social complexity in Igbo-Ukwu, Eastern Nigeria (ca.800‒1200 CE).” This collaborative project funded a second season of research which was instrumental to expanding to new areas of excavation beyond the pioneering excavation area by Shaw in the 1960s. A section of this grant was dedicated to setting up the first archaeological science lab in southeast Nigeria.
American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship. PI, Dr K.C. Daraojimba: “Understanding the settlement history of an ancestral African Community: Environmental and historical archaeology perspectives.” This fund supported research to expand on my PhD research in Orile-Owu, southwest Nigeria.
Joint PIs, Dr Pamela J. Smith Shaw and Dr K.C. Daraojimba: “New Excavations at Igbo-Ukwu.” This fund provided additional support for excavation, public engagement and archaeological field training for local community members during the second season.
